The Strategic Technologies Division wanted to encourage teachers to use technology in the classroom. Projects were being run by the DCSF and by third party delivery partners so schools weren’t aware of the full programme of support that was available to them.
We worked across a range of organisations including Capita, the TDA, Becta and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust to develop a communications strategy and programme of activity which gave leaders and teachers in schools a totally convincing set of messages about why they needed to use technology, and explained what schools and local authorities needed to do in order to take the first steps.
To do this effectively we needed to ensure that all partners understood and bought into the strategy. Communications were delivered through the web, print, PR, exhibitions and conferences. We put in place a detailed measurement framework and undertook in depth qualitative research with schools to understand how programme activity was changing teaching practice in the classroom.
We also worked on the development of KS/2 pedagogical materials for teachers which were delivered in a DVD format and online covering the entire curriculum. We also worked with Foundation Stage specialists to help develop their programme activity and best practise use of technology with under 5s.
Finally, we worked with the team to develop the Computers for Pupils initiative which focuses on giving hard to reach pupils the same opportunities as others. We focused on insights about children and their families to help local authorities develop tailored and relevant support programmes as well as contributing to the project development plan, planning and communications support.
Verdant Marketing brought insight and drive to our programme. They developed a deep understanding of the issues and used this, together with very strong marketing and communications skills, to develop a communication programme that really did help make a practical difference in schools across the country. Their work was of the highest quality and I would commend them to anyone considering using their services.
